Before WAKO - FIKB national championship kickboxing 2008 in Rimini - there was also WKA + IAKSA kickboxing championship on 20th April 2008. Sincronicity of kickboxing events in Italy is amazing. Different organisation decides for the same places in a very similar period of a year.

President FKBI (Federation Italia of Kickboxing)- (don't change with FIKB (WAKO)) is Dr. Andrea Albertin who is also president of Sport Federation of Venice (Veneto) region.

Many elements from ballet art came to savate. The same names of fouette for example, but not the same technique. How to promote savate sport for women and girls?

2008 event: Do I have a feeling that savate is hiding?

Kamel CHOUAREF on a heel

Excellent fighter with a smaller mistake in doing and teaching kicks. At every kick you should step up on your fingers (like ballet dancer). Probably Kamel was in his fights fast enough to escape fast chasse kicks in his supporting leg when he transfered all bodies weight on his heel. His combinations are brilliant but his execution of leg techniques are only by my opinion not so excellent. Many fighters with larger foot numbers tackle with the same difficult tasks.

IAKSA PRO

Some kickboxing clubs in Italy part of FIKB and of course also WAKO still promote IAKSA. And this is weird because officialy IAKSA and WAKO merged. Story reminds us of neverending merging of ITF and WTF taekwondo and many ITF organisations.
And after all we got also IAKSA PRO. WAKO PRO was not enough.

Mr. Michal Frabsa in WAKO and out of ISKA

Czech kickboxing: http://www.csfu.cz/iska/english

Mr. Michal Frabsa, as vice-president of Czech Fullcontact Union (a Federation which is officially recognized by its NOC and Ministry of Youth and Sports, has signed an agreement to support only WAKO in the future. Through the agreement he has signed in the name of Czech Full Contact Union, from now on his federation will only support and participate in WAKO Championships.
Mr. Frabsa was the promoter of the last ISKA World Championship held in Prague. WAKO could not stand such a situation any longer and he was obliged to make a choice. What he did.
Mr. Frabsa will also immediately resign from his positions as vice-president of IAKSA and member of the Organizing Committee of WPKA.
WAKO are looking forward to better cooperation with the federation and hope to develop kickboxing in Czech Republic. From next year the Czech Open will be a WAKO event and it will be included in WAKO schedule.

New opportunity for SAVATE?

Geer-Mahic-Kawulski

One of the main initiatives could be cooperation between great European representatives on new common projects that would satisfy everyone, especially the large proportion of the MMA and Thai boxing fan base all around Europe.
They say a picture can tell a thousand words and when one photo is taken of Andy Geer – a former president of the Cage Rage organization, Zlatko Mahic – owner of the WFC organization, and Maciej Kawulski – owner of the KSW organization all together, after spending time with each other, then we now that something’s up!
If this “trinity” could unite their fighters, their ascendancy, media and sponsors, they would, no doubt, become the strongest European fighting organization, which could easily equate itself with American and Japanese fighting associations.
They already talk about MMA reality show, where 16 fighters from neighbour countries will live, and fight together somewhere on the coast of Adriatic sea.
TV companies from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Monte Negro and Hungary already showed their interes.

STX - Savate-Thai-Crosstraining

http://www.kombatarts.com/Classes/STX/index.html

STX stands for Savate-Thai-Crosstraining. This is the stand-up style that is taught by Erik Paulson (erikpaulson.com) as a result of the training he’s had from his many instructors.
From Savate, STX draws its footwork and evasiveness. Savate is known for being highly mobile and constantly moving which makes you harder to hit and allows you to attack at angles.
STX also capitalizes on Savate’s many fakes and setups so that the opponent is constantly guessing as to which attack is real and what is just a misleading fake. Following the misleading attacks is a system of extremely fluid combinations that help to allow the fighter to land more hits than the opponent while moving in and out of range at good angles. On defense, STX draws from some of the unique defense and counter techniques that help to keep your opponent out of his game and help you to set up your shots more like a chess match. Savate is also a much longer range kicking method.
From Thai boxing, STX obviously draws its powerful kicking and conditioning. It will also utilize the stand your ground attitude of Muay Thai with good, strong defensive techniques and quick, powerful counters. STX also uses the closing and clinching techniques that Muay Thai is known for so that you can control and apply knees, elbows and close range punching.
Although STX is heavily based on Savate and Muay Thai, it also has elements that are modified and used from other arts and disciplines such as Kali, Silat, Greco Roman Wrestling, and Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do concepts.

WTF taekwondo to Introduce Athlete Ranking System in 2009

LINK

The World Taekwondo Federation will introduce an athlete ranking system as early as in 2009, after years of study.
The WTF athlete world ranking system, which will be announced every three months, is aimed at making taekwondo competitions more exciting both to the public and the media.
A quarter of the athletes participating in the WTF-promoted or --sanctioned tournaments will be seeded for every category, according to the master plan of the WTF ranking system. If there are 24 athletes in a weight category, six will be seeded.
The system, which will include informative statistics, may eventually serve as a platform for the creation of a professional taekwondo league, which will be beneficial for the WTF and the athletes in terms of marketing opportunities.
Based on the WTF ranking system, the WTF plans to launch a tentatively named annual President Cup Invitational Tournament as early as in December next year. According to the proposal, top eight athletes in each category will be invited to the tournament.
The system will be applied to the WTF-promoted and --sanctioned taekwondo championships on an individual basis.
In principle, the points shall be awarded according to the following formula: A (Points received according to the rank at the WTF-promoted or sanctioned championships) X B (Grade of pertinent tournaments) = final points.
According to the master plan for the WTF ranking system, the first-ranked athlete shall receive 10 points, while the second-placed athlete shall receive 60 percent of the points awarded to the first-ranked athlete, that means 6 points. The third-ranked athlete shall receive 60 percent of the points awarded to the second-ranked athlete, that means 3.6 points.
The WTF will commission its Games Committee or a new Event Evaluation Committee to grade taekwondo tournaments. The WTF plans to report the detailed ranking system to the WTF Council in December this year on the occasion of the 3rd WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships to be held in Ankara, Turkey. The first-placed athlete at the Olympic taekwondo tournament, for example, will receive 100 points.

Multi games and WTF-sanctioned tournaments shall be classified into AAA, AA and A classes by the Event Evaluation Committee. The Committee shall evaluate a tournament within one month after the completion of the pertinent event, taking into consideration the number of participants, technical level of athletes, the organizing committee’s abidance by the WTF Rules and so on.
The awarded points shall be only valid for two full years and will be reviewed every three months. This process is continuous, that is new points awarded to an athlete will be subject to its own two-year cycle of point reviews every three months.
During the two-year term, 25 percent of a particular set of awarded points shall be deducted every three months. After the completion of the eight quarterly reviews, that is two-year term, no points from this set shall remain. Based on this rolling point review process, the only remaining points shall be those awarded to the athlete in other competitions.
National team ranking and junior ranking systems will be adopted after successful implementation of the WTF ranking system for individuals, while the by-law to the WTF ranking system will be developed soon to clarify the detailed matters, such as criteria of classes.

Magnificent event 2005 - France Elite - savate combat

It's no joke when we are talking about France ELITE savate. Only the best my friends, and very, very rare ones.

Advanced pupil teaches beginner

In Didier Buch's club Ploeren - you can see an excellent way of teaching savate. Beginners take all the knowledge from observing advanced pupils. And Didier just corrects some elements.

Savate in Kosovo - Besnick Bajra

Shihan Besnick Bajra was born on July, 21st 1970 in Istog, a small town in Northwest Kosovo. As he grew throughout childhood, his dream was always to become an exceptional martial artist. His inspirations were Kung Fu movies with the Martial Arts stars and legends Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.
At the age of ten, Shihan Nick began to practice Judo with other family members. He knew then that this sport would follow him for the rest of his life. For the years that followed, he committed his dedication, and trained every day.
After finishing High School, at the age of seventeen, Shihan Nick was forced to join the former Yugoslavian Army against his will. During his time in the army, Shihan Nick continued his dedication to the Martial Arts by training even harder. By absorbing hand-to-hand combat techniques and close quarter combat training with knives and other weapons, Shihan Nick was becoming a very knowledgeable Martial artist.
Due to the deteriorating situation in Yugoslavia, and to avoid being taken as a soldier for the war in Bosnia, Shihan Nick was forced to leave his home country. He left everyone he knew, his entire family including his sick father, and at the age of 18, moved to Paris on his own. With nobody to rely on but himself, Shihan Nick turned to what he knew and loved: Martial Arts. He quickly found a school in Paris, and began to train in a French Karate style named Savate.
During this time, he worked small jobs when they appeared, and managed to save money. In January of 1990 he was granted his biggest dream—a visa to the United States of America.
Upon arriving at JFK Airport, he had only $50 in his pocket. The chance for his freedom was worth more to him than any amount of money.
He moved to Port Jefferson, Long Island, and began a minimum wage job as a dishwasher. On a day off, during a walk down route 25, he stumbled upon a small dojo named “Vee Jitsu Arnis”. He became very excited watching the small teacher throw much bigger men around effortlessly. From that moment on, Shihan Nick, whose dream was to become a true Martial Artist, felt the dojo’s energy, and knew that was true Martial Arts. He walked to the master and his first words were, “My name is Nick, I don’t speak English, I want to train!” The master’s response was, “A true teaching has no words, God gives talent, and man develops it.” This master was Professor Frank Galante, also know as Prof. Gee.
Shihan Nick began training with his teacher very hard, five hours a day, seven days a week. He learned every style Prof. Gee taught, including Vee Jitsu, Judo, Arnis-Escrima, Tai Chi, and Kickboxing. During this period he also trained with Martial Arts legend, Supreme Grandmaster Florendo Visitacion, also know as Prof. Vee. Shihan Nick’s teacher, Prof. Gee, had received all of his training, from a first degree to a tenth degree Black Belt, from the master Prof. Vee. Shihan Nick considered himself very lucky to be trained by such a legend until 1995.
In 1992 Shihan Nick obtained his first degree Black Belt. At this time he began competing tournaments all over the state of New York, and never finished lower than second place in either kickboxing, Karate forms, or Arnis Stick Fighting.
Shihan Nick never stopped his training, had received his third degree black belt for every style taught by Prof. Gee. He then moved to Connecticut, and on September 15th, 1995, opened his own Academy for training in Norwalk.
Even today, Elite Martial Arts is the only school in the state of Connecticut which teaches these styles. Shihan Nick still runs his successful Academy and continues to train with Prof. Frank Galante. He is now a Senior Master, as well as a current fifth degree Black Belt. He is on the road to become a master just like his mentors.
The thirteen years of professional experience in training have made Shihan Nick a very good teacher. He hasn’t just learned techniques and fighting, but philosophy as well. He is able to pass all of this knowledge to his students, who are loving and respecting of him and his teaching.

Another of Shihan Nick’s dreams was realized in 2002, when he was granted his American citizenship, something he is very proud of.

This was a biography of a person who followed his dreams until they became real.

Brasil savate with Tony Ancelin

Portela (Brasil) vs. Tony Ancelin (France) - 24/May/2008
Friendly match - assaut. French savateurs have a very difficult task at spreading savate. Savate with its different non-macho philosophy is not a good brick to substitute weird idea about though martial arts in a house of fighting. Like football, basketball and other normal sports savate try to be professional and not so much emotional and involved in the process of "Hey madafaka I will...".
Every move and mistake is judged by the audience with applause. Tony thank you for making good things for savate in Brasil. You are a brilliant savate fighter.

Joel Dhumez, Hubert Abela, Tony Ancelin and many others shows values of savate boxe francaise in Brasil. Good work. Thank you France and Brasil.

A little bit of "combat"

Didn't they practice TTC?

MATTHIAS QUAGLIA savate assaut for children

League PACA - Marseille, France. Assaut is very nice, safe and tactical fighting sports suitable also for children.

TTC - Technical & Tactical competition

Most savate countries don't practice it and most trainers don't know what this is. I can say for myself that TTC is the basis for good assaut and combat savate fighting. You can find it here why...:

In its Extraordinary meeting in Bejing, China in August, the AIBA Executive Committee chose the City of Bécancour, Canada, to host the first AIBA Boxing Academy.

Although the grand opening of the AIBA Boxing Academy new facilities is not foreseen before 2010, some temporary installations will already be at disposal during the course of next year. This is the reason why AIBA has already started to search for its Academy Director who will be responsible for the general oversight, direction and for the operations.

Less than 10% clubs on Croatian kickboxing CUP (WAKO)

As Mr. Bozic from Kutina says:
There were only 14 clubs (Croatian kickboxing has approximately 150 clubs) and 61 competitors on Croatian kickboxing CUP in Split, Croatia in 15 weight categories in LIGHT contact and 17 weight categories in FULL contact. When you calculate this - you find out that there were 1,9 competitor per category. Nice. And from the results there is evident that there were just competitors from 4 clubs. Interesting.
He said that WAKO kickboxing super power Croatia has its federation in very, very deep crises.

Moreska - Canne de Combat in Croatia, Korcula

And for Croatian savate would be so easy to promote Canne de Combat - especially in Korcula.

A traditional sword dance once spread on the Mediterranean, has only been retained in the Town of Korcula (island Korcula). The people of Korcula have been dancing Moreska for full 400 years and with its performance around the world they fittingly represent their Town. The dance consists of a display of a war fight with swords between two armies of whose kings have waged war to each other by reason of love of a beautiful girl, who the "black" king had snatched away from the "red" king.

Where to have an office for your International sport federation?

Following good practice...

JJIF/Ju-Jitsu
JJIF President Paul G. Hoglund about new JJIF Office...
The JJIF has opened a new office at the "Maison du Sport International (MSI)" (House of International Sports) in Lausanne, Avenue de Rhodanie 54, CH-1007 Lausanne, Switzerland. Our office is in the building in the middle, ca 10 minutes walk from the IOC (International Olympic Committee) Head Office in Chateau de Vidy on the same street.
This office is as said before mainly dealing with international sport development matters and direct information to members regarding news of general interest, such as this newsletter. It should also collect and feed the JJIF webpage www.jjif.org. with as much material as possible.
Another task for the office is to keep contact with the other 25 international sport federations registered in Lausanne and Canton de Vaud. Also to keep contact with IOC and other sport bodies of interest. Our immediate JJIF neighbours in the office building are WTF, World Taekwondo Federation (Olympic sport), and GAISF SportAccord office. Other important federations in the building are AIBA (international boxing) and FITA (international archery), both Olympic sports.
The city of Lausanne has just decided to have the flag of all the 25 International Sport Federations, registered and located in Lausanne, at the square Place d'Europe in the city. So the JJIF flag is swinging high in the Olympic Capital Lausanne!

11th time Kutina or 1st time Pakrac - OPEN WAKO clubs kickboxing cup

Mr. Bozic from WAKO kickboxing Croatia (city of Kutina) said that tryings of Mr. Romeo Deša and Mr. Predrag Znaor (WAKO representatives for Croatia) to make the same club WAKO kickboxing competition in Pakrac instead of his traditional in Kutina is just another crime of the TWINS in a process.
And he shows - bill of indictment - from office of the public prosecutor.
Read it if you understand Croatian language. And I can say that it is very serious thing...

Minoan boxing - 2500 b.c. - 1700 b.c. Crete island, Greece

On a 4500 years years old fresco painting we see two young boxers. Special thing that attracts us, is well protected (stronger) back hand "bras arier". Leading hand is without protection, because it is not so strong and its use is probably meant for grappling and parry. We can see interesting definition of sport fighting through safety equipment. That kind of rules in martial arts today we don't see. But maybe it would be useful to discover how practical these fighting techniques were at that time.
