The WTF had a series of meetings with various organizations, including the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the International University Sports Federation (FISU), and the International Mediterranean Games Committee (CIJM), on March 26, 2009 in Denver, the United States.
On the fourth day of the SportAccord 2009, WTF President Choue met with IPC President Sir. Philip Craven, FISU President Mr. George E. Killan, and CIJM President Mr. Amar Addadi in separate meetings to exchange opinions on how to cooperate with each other.

President Choue extended an invitation to Sir Philip Craven for the inaugural event.
Sir Philip Craven recognized the WTF efforts and emphasized the importance of the organization of at least two World Para-Taekwondo Championships with the participation of more than 25 countries from at least three continents before being staged at the 2016 Paralympic Games.
In a separate meeting between WTF leaders and the FISU president, Mr. George E. Killan acknowledged the popularity of taekwondo throughout the world and extended his congratulations to the WTF on taekwondo’s position and inclusion of poomsae in the official program of the 2009
Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia, while seven sports were removed from the program.
Dr. Ken Min, a WTF Council member, said that taekwondo is the first International Sports Federation which implemented the Continental University Taekwondo Championships by organizing the PanAm University Taekwondo Championships this year.
In a meeting with CIJM President Amar Addadi, the WTF side explained to him its efforts for taekwondo’s inclusion in the 2013 Mediterranean Games to be held in Greece. It also explained about the organization of the Mediterranean Taekwondo Cup Championships in May 2009 in Morocco.

Was savate 2010 presented too? And why without FIS savate federation? It would be perfect combination.

FISU President George Killian and members of the FISU Staff lead by Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond are in Denver, Colorado, USA for the 7th edition of SportAccord.
FISU is present at the SportAccord Conference with a promotional booth representing the different activities of FISU as well as the upcoming FISU events. Marc Vandenplas, Director for the Summer Universiade; Milan Augustin, Director for the Winter Universiade and Laurent Briel, Director for the World University Championships represent their departments to the delegates of the International Sport Federations visiting the FISU booth. Lots of new contacts are made and old ones strengthened. The agenda of the FISU President is quite full as a great number of IFS representatives want to meet with him.

Kickboxing federation Croatia on a court - TRIAL

Source: http://www.kickboxing-kutina.hr/hkbs-novosti).htm

23th March - HKBS - Kickboxing federation Croatia (WAKO member) punished with 250.000 kunas (33.500 EUR).
Ministry of finance Craotia punished HKBS, because of illegal practice (money transfer).
Being punished, president and secretary of federation didn't inform about the case their members - kickboxing clubs.
Problem about HKBS is becoming bigger and bigger and in Kutina - where these information are coming out they are optimistic about new relations in kikboxing sport in Croatia.
We hope that savate in Croatia will become also more independent of kickboxing in these new times.

IMAGINARY SAVATE FEDERATIONS

If you accept the statement that most of savate fighters outside France are actually kickboxing WAKO fighters in the first plan or better - In the first line they are kickboxers belonging to other SPORT than savate...

... then you can speculate that most of these people KNOW EACH OTHER from kickboxing WAKO tournaments.

Do you think that STARTING LISTS on FIS "small" combat World and European championships are part of this problem?

ARE ALSO RESULTS AND FINAL MATCHES IN SAVATE PLANNED AND TACTICALLY PREPARED?
WHEN number of competitors is smaller and categories with only few maybe even 3 fighters per category, then THIS PROCESS OF PLANING IS A VERY EASY THING TO DO.

IF YOU COUNT ALSO JUDGES FROM SPECIFIC NATION COUNTRY IN THIS GAME, THEN VISIBILITY IN THESE MOODY WATERS BECOMES BETTER.

If somembody in this game called "SAVATE tournament" decides that he doesn't love specific management team of some specific national Savate federation and wants to change them with more suitable group, then he will try to contact his target group separately (without intervention of National savate federation) and make everything to arrange RESULTS in advance.
It is not very difficult job. Just few phone calls and you have it.
In this way kickboxers have calculated and sure SAVATE results every year in another discipline called savate - which brings them additional money for their other kickboxing activities.
And if somewhere in the world - new and fresh savate team appears (which wants to train especially and only SAVATE) - THIS DIRTY TACTICS WILL CERTAINLY KILL IT IN A YEAR OR TWO. Or turn it into kickboxing group with the same behavior - hiding real kickboxing activity behind one or two savate tournaments per year.
WE TALK ABOUT IMAGINARY SAVATE FEDERATIONS WHICH ACTUALLY DON'T EXIST.

The old tactique of ITF taekwondo - fighters - when they competed in one of 3 ITF federations and later also in kickboxing WAKO (WKA or IAKSA) light contact was, that they took one or both results from very similar disciplines.
If they didn't succeeded in the first they made it in other discipline.
So you were always the winner. And important thing for the development of fighting sport is that you promote yourself as a world/european/regional champion.
Most importnat role in this story are subventions. Yes MONEY. You are right.
In smaller newly created post war countries (Serbia, Croatia...) it was not difficult to get subventions for savate from almost fresh Ministries of Sport or recognition from very Young Olympic Committees.

Let the women in tbe olympic boxing family!

HA, HA, HA ... CRAZY - congratulations to Denmark.

The Danish Stand at Sportaccord had a prominent visit. Tiffanie Hearn from the US-boxing amateur boxing association, came by to promote the message: let the women in tbe olympic boxing family!

The AIBA World Series of Boxing (WSB) and women's boxing in the Olympic Games are two key projects which will revolutionise the world of international boxing according to the President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu.
Dr. Wu, who was elected as AIBA President in 2006, has been proud to unveil the two new initiatives at the 2009 Sportaccord in Denver, USA, which runs until Friday. The World Series of Boxing will be launched in September 2010 while the inclusion of women's boxing in the Olympic Games is dependent on the IOC, which will make a decision on whether women's boxing will be included at the 2012 Olympic Games at its Congress in October 2009.
"AIBA has made enormous progress in its effort to revolutionise the sport of boxing and the 2009 Sportaccord provides an excellent opportunity for AIBA to illustrate how this has been achieved while also highlighting some of its exciting initiatives.
"Sportaccord is one of the best platforms amongst the sporting community for discussion and knowledge sharing and AIBA is looking forward to having the opportunity to not only participate but help promote some of the key AIBA projects - the World Series of Boxing, Women's Boxing - which are proving crucial to the world of boxing".
The WSB will be the only professional series in which boxers will retain their Olympic eligibility and national federations will receive a return on their investment in boxers.
AIBA's vision for the World Series of Boxing is to preserve the best of the new style of professional boxing while capitalizing on AIBA's strong boxing traditions to reunite the broader boxing world and its grassroots whilst providing a bridge between Olympic boxing and professional boxing.
AIBA's proposal to the IOC includes the introduction of 40 female boxers across five weight categories - 47kg, 53kg, 60kg, 69kg and 75kg.

AGFIS is watching us?

How funny is FIS savate these days. They lost all imagination -"HOW TO BLUFF ITS MEMBERS".
Mouth full of AGFIS - words known for almost more than 10 years - are coming out in this way:
Come on to Serbia to join this huge event called combat savate - because AGFIS is watching us. There should be nearly 30 countries. Funny.

Isn't AGFIS worried about licenses in savate, and many professional fighters circulating here and there without any control and medical and other passports?
NO.... :). FIS says that AGFIS just want to have more than 30 countries.

(Ju-jitsu some years had 20 members on a world championship - and they are AGFIS members. And SUMO - this sport is ARISF category, and FISU accepted savate without AGFIS membership.)
We started with affiliation to AGFIS 2009 with our smallest competition - combat. Crazy.
And if we don't satisfy this (most corrupted and chaotic sport organization) what will happen?

...OF COURSE WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN AGFIS.

And WAKO kickboxing and Kickboxing federation of Serbia and FIS savate - I mean all main actors will be satisfied.
Their professional fighters will further circulate through all Europe gladiator ARENAS without any questions. And France will put all efforts in seeking new banana republics and new clubs to do savate occasionally.

But there are many problems for French savate federation and FIS. 1st is trouble will start with EU sport commison and the 2nd with FISU savate acceptance of new non-AGFIS member. Will savate with new sport politics in EU and France and after Olympic congress in 2009 still live in Europe? Will savate survive?
Every further stupid step of delaying AGFIS recognition is closer to savate death. And names of people pushing this critical steps will be written in savate history for many new generations.

The old game known from the past will probably go on and on and on.

Is this really well known and typical so called "French" behavior?

Alex Walnier on savate seminar for judges, Genoa, Italy

Belgium helps Italy with seminar instructors - judging.
Luigi Ilengo from Andrea Doria club from Genoa, Italy donate his clubs facilities.
Alfredo Lallo - FIKB responsible for savate. And Maurizio Giacalone. And of course - pupils.

FIS writes:
On the 20th and 21st March 2009, Alexander WALNIER, President of the FIS International Commission for Officials, returned to Milan and Genoa (Italy).
The first training event of the F.I.S. took place in 1988 in Genoa and Milan... 21 years ago.
Many trainees attended the Salle Doria (the oldest Savate school in Italy), along with Mr. Alfredo LALLO (responsible for Savate in Italy), Mr. Luigi ILENGO Professor in Genoa) and Maurizio GIACALONE (responsible for the League).
The atmosphere of the event was excellent. Questions were numerous and the exchanges were interesting. Italy is a nation with long-term involvement in Savate and the Italian leaders are knowledgeable about our discipline.
Of more than 20 candidates, only 4 candidates will obtain their international diploma:
Judge/Referee and Official Delegate of level "A"
Mr. Alfredo LALLO
Mr. Maurizio GIACALONE
Mr. Luigi ILENGO

Judge/Referee of level "B"
Mr. Dominico RUTIGLIANI

Trainer for the F.I.S. (able to deliver training for international diplomas for officials)
Mr. Maurizio GIACALONE

And I ask myself - HOW THE HELL CAN LICENSES BE DELIVERED LIKE THIS? WHO IS WHO?
DOES FIS HAVE SOME UNIVERSAL TECHNICAL BODIES (REFEREES, TRAINERS,...)?

Savate club Vojvodina

LOOK new article about Savate club Vojvodina. This old data is not correct:

Martial art club "VOJVODINA" started as Kung-fu club "Novi Sad" registered on 9th of October 1978.
On 16th January 1992 changed its name and become Savate club "Vojvodina" (as a member of Sport club "Vojvodina"???)

Office of club:
Club of martial art sports "VOJVODINA-VELETABAK"
Lasla Gala 24, 21 000 Novi Sad
Tel.: 021 421 497, 021 421 498

Contacts:
Miodrag Jotic (FIRST OFFICIAL SAVATE FIGHTER IN YUGOSLAVIA AND SILVER GLOVE (INSEP))
Dimitrija Avramovica 15, 27/V
21 000 Novi Sad
tel.: 021 524 111, 063 554 668

Funny in sport classification in Serbia is the name of the club, which can be changed whenever you want. In legal sport systems - there is forbidden and illegal to change registered name of your company, club etc.

For example we can see cooperation of two clubs:
Sport club Phoenix http://www.kickbox-phoenix.com/ and Savate club Vojvodina. Some months before we couldn't measured activities of savate in Savate club Vojvodina and Mr. Miodrag Jotic.

Why? Because Mr. Miodrag Jotic officialy represents as ex-savateur sport of kickboxing WAKO nowadays
http://www.kick.rs/index.php?q=pages/klubovi_srbija
Vojvodina 21000 Novi Sad Dimitrija Avramovića 15 Miodrag Jotić 063 554 668

... but probably/actually he works for IFMA - Muay Thai probably without Muay thai federation of Serbia (which doesn't exist in Sport federation of Serbia and is not financed in Serbia).

And here is proof that Muay thai federation of Serbia exist :)
Seminar of Muay thai - with Tyrone Sponge in organisation of Muay thai federation of Serbia (and youngsters from Ronin Gym - like young savate federation of Serbia or Vojvodina :)) as it stands on this poster :)

Does IFMA have a link of Muay thai federation of Serbia? http://www.ifmamuaythai.org/Links/link.html

Serb WIKIPEDIA don't know nothing about IFMA and Muay thai federation of Serbia
http://sr.wikipedia.org/sr-el/%D0%A2%D0%B0%D1%98%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B4%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8_%D0%B1%D0%BE%D0%BA%D1%81
And if it is possible to compete for Serbia in muay thai IFMA (AGFIS recognised) without national federation, than you can compete in this way also in SAVATE (FIS) (not AGFIS recognised - as you see with a good, good reason) or with Savate federation of Vojvodina :).

These days we can see Mr. Miodrag Jotic with Mr. Gilles Le Duigou and trainer of Sport club Phoenix Mr. Miroslav Odzic.
In Serbia is very hard to find tiny line beetwen kickboxing and Savate because all savate clubs are also kickboxing clubs. Also President of Savate federation Serbia Mr. Miodrag Rakic is a member of Kickboxing federation Serbia. Nothing unusual.
See savate clubs in Kickboxing federation Serbia: http://www.kick.rs/index.php?q=pages/klubovi_srbija
But can you find savate clubs here on a Savate federation Serbia site?
http://www.savate-srbija.com/

And if you are not a friend of kickboxing WAKO in Europe - imagine how hard is to co-operate with this "unique" SAVATE federations. Especially in Balcan EX-YU region.
This is also problem of FIS how to spread and popularize savate as sport. One way street politics if you ask me.

And why these savate relations with Mr. Miodrag Jotic and Mr. Borisav Pelevic and WAKO kickboxing are hidden all these years? And who stops savate in this way with stupid and not legal politics from the background?
And remember - World combat championship will be in Serbia. Start to beleive in savate.

What do we need in FIS - SAVATE

If we want o be serious international federation instead of so-called one of many fighting styles on a world market.
To put in how many fights do we have, which glove we posses, health certificate, years of training - and that all should be saved in FIS evidence - just to write the history of our sport for the next generations.

Daniele Abate - Silver glove - SAVATE - Italy

And what is strange? You just can't find this man anywhere in the circus of Italian savate. Although recognised in IAKSA, FIST, and ex - Italian Union of Savate he was not one of medalist in FIKB (Italian Kickboxing Federation) when awards for savate were given to all ex-savateurs by Mr. Ennio Falsone.

And on 11th of October 2009 - we find him recognised. Maybe this text helped.

IFMA goes to Denver 2009 - AGFIS - Sportaccord

Muay Thai - IFMA managers are not just satisfied with inclusion of Muay Thai sport in AGFIS. They want to be olympic recognised in ARISF. This is the right way. If SUMO made it, why Muay Thai shouldn't succeed. What is the story about savate? Savate don't go to Denver, don't respect the opinion of its members and after all its history and Olympic games 1900 and 1924 don't dream about Olympic recognition. Isn't it strange?

Abstract
Both savate and chausson are French self-defence practices which originated at the beginning of the nineteenth century and combined during the 1960s. Over the last two centuries, these combat disciplines were transformed into several practices: 'fitness' gymnastics, a discipline for training soldiers, an academic sport for health, a combat discipline and finally a competitive sport. Each step of the transformation follows the general evolution of sport and gymnastics in France. As a result, modernisation at the end of the eighteenth century and the specific progression of French history can explain the origins and the transformations of these popular combat arts into a fighting sport in the seventies, called 'French boxing'. Beyond its technical complexities, the history of the discipline was troubled by cultural, political, economic and social contradictions that prevented its evolution into a worldwide combat sport. By focusing on this specific and not so well-known discipline, a large part of French sport history can be interpreted.

In Athens, Greece they call it savate - kickboxing

I was always curious about that kind of combination. Chopin on piano accordion - this is the first impression I get.

Stick fighting UNITED?

If we see very good cooperation of sports savate, kickboxing and also muay thai, why this example is not followed in a world of stick fighting?
For example - Jogo do Pao + Baton@CanneDeComat + Kali + Escrima + Arnis/PenchakSilat + Silambam?
Is there somebody who posses an answer?

Savate federation of Vojvodina

On a website of Pokrajinski sekretarijat za sport i omladinu - Some kind of Canton of Vojvodina - part of Ministry of Sport and Youth - we see some data about savate in Serbia - Vojvodina.

http://www.sio.vojvodina.sr.gov.yu/

Vojvodina (like ex-YU Kosovo (canton)) part of Serbia has its own savate federation - some says that it is part of Savate federation of Serbia.
Weird thing is that on an annual calendar for 2005 - there is activity of attending finals of savate world championship in France (and European championship in Belgium)(and University world cup 2005) which is not in competence of Savate federation of Vojvodina.
National federation (responsible for savate) is certainly Savate federation of Serbia.
But all in all - mistakes can show us true nature of savate sport outside France.

http://www.sio.vojvodina.sr.gov.yu/Kalendar/septembar.htm

You have to know that Miso Rakic - president of Savate federation Serbia was also president of Kickboxing federation of Vojvodina (also not National federation).
And the most tricky thing is that Mr. Borislav Pelevic - (first Serbian - silver glove in savate licenced in INSEP France) is president of Kickboxing federation of Serbia.

Who is who?

Silvia La Notte on Oktagon 2009

With president of FIKB - Italian kickboxing federation Mr. Ennio Falsone

After fight against Linda Ooms (Muay thai - HOL)

Sweet language and comments on Oktagon 2009:
In my office one day, Carlo Di Blasi said “Pity we don’t have a betting system set up yet”. The creator of Oktagon, the primary event on the Italian Kickboxing scene, which has taken place in Milan for the last 14 years, continued, “can you imagine what a frenzy the Souwer vs Petrosian match would have stirred up?” The idea of this match has inflamed the hearts and minds of all the aficionados of our sport and thus 8,000 fans literally invaded the PalaSharp Arena from every corner of Italy so as not to miss the event everybody will talk about forever. The enormous suspended-fabric structure, with its capacity of 10,000 persons, lying behind the San Siro soccer stadium area, was almost filled to the brim already at 8 p.m. Wherever you turned your eyes you could see a wall of people. The well-tested choreography of “It’s Show Time” – one of the major Dutch organizations Carlo has been working with for some time – dominated one end of the PalaSharp venue. The huge lighting system and the splendid professional ballerinas who performed during the 50-second intervals between rounds were the perfect backdrop to that magical night. It was magical for the electrifying enthusiasm, the people’s expectations and warmth, and their knowledge of our sport which turned it all into a spectacle within a spectacle. Di Blasi is very skilled at eliciting the public’s interest and during the year since the moment when he chose the Souwer-Petrosian match as the evening’s main event, he has knowingly hammered away at appealing to the passions of our great public. The success of his promotion has gone well beyond all our expectations. I have never seen so many people flock to one of our events in the last ten years, which proves the show was worth it. Our sport is running against the general trend, while many sports are languishing and strongly feel the economic pinch affecting most common people, like everywhere else in the world these days. Therefore, the affluence of so many people is a sure sign of a healthy sport, as is also shown by our strong federation figures for the current year. We feared we would lose members and member clubs, but instead the end-of-year numbers will again be positive; FIKB will reach over 17,000 members and close to 500 clubs, an objective we had set for ourselves for this 4-year period. So what was it that I liked so much about Oktagon? Besides the general venue, the public, the entertainment and general choreography, I can safely state that the Andy Souwer-Giorgio Petrosian match hit the nail on the head. Andy was very concentrated and started off at full throttle from the first gong. It was the first time I had ever seen Petrosian forced to back-pedal. Don’t misunderstand me ─ his tactic was very intelligent. Souwer, with his suffocating attack, became vulnerable to counterpunches, a strategy at which Petrosian excels. The match was highly intense and there was no letup, as if it were a K-1 Max final. Unfortunately, three 3-minute rounds are not much for professional athletes of this calibre, and when you have the same exceptional level of these two athletes it becomes almost impossible to determine who the real winner is. At the end of the match the judges decreed a draw, immediately followed by unbecoming protests of scandal from Petrosian’s corner. But it was not scandalous. During the extra round we saw no change. We saw Souwer trying to pressure Petrosian again and force him into a brawl at short range, ultimately seeking the final blow. But Giorgio was very skilled at never letting his rival corner him and he succeeded in landing the one solid left-hand counterpunch of the match and this perhaps contributed to ensuring his victory. So, the great champion lost, but I must say that Souwer, being a true professional, didn’t lose his cool at all. He donned his cap, participated in the award ceremony and elegantly climbed down from the ring with his coach, Andre Mannart. On the other side there was an explosion of joy for the victory which launches Petrosian into the Japanese Olympus of Kickboxing. He fully deserves it because, besides the question of parity, one thing is certain ─ fighting on a par with Andy Souwer is, in itself, paramount to excellence. Giorgio Petrosian earned his deserved coronation in the PalaSharp ring. The second most intriguing match of the evening was the one between Brazil’s Alexander Cosmo and the Dutchman Murthel Groenthart, who a year earlier had won the Oktagon 8-way tournament at the Palalido arena. I had never seen Cosmo fight before, but I must admit he overpowered his rival with his superior physical conditioning. He was very skilful, more precise and more powerful than Murthel, who lost on points by a wide margin. I would like to see the extraordinary Cosmo in action again soon. The third remarkable match saw our (Italian) Silvia La Notte pitted against Holland’s Linda Oolms, a ranked athlete who I believe had never fought in Italy before. Silvia, whom I had personally recommended to Di Blasi as one of the highlights of the evening didn’t disappoint. She started strongly from the very beginning and proved to be faster, more determined and precise than her opponent, who never seriously threatened her. La Notte is quick and has combinations which she unleashes with extreme ease. She also has imagination and can box elegantly, making up for what she lacks in strength. Hers was a truly wonderful performance for which the judges unanimously declared her the winner. I appreciated the unusual courage of Alessandro Pacini, summoned to take the place of Britain’s Kerrian Keddle (who couldn’t reach the required weight limit of 65 kg). In his match, for the world “It’s Show Time” championship, he went through the scheduled five rounds, always trying to answer blow for blow. His rival, the Dutch-Moroccan Hassan El Hamzaoui, was dangerous only with his legs, which he could windmill on command as only those coming from Taekwondo can do. He was spectacular in two occasions, but Pacini, with coach Alessandro Grifa in his corner, succeeded in escaping all his combinations unscathed. Pacini lost on points, but fought with honour, considering that he had no time to prepare specifically for this match. Kudos to him. Turkey’s Sahin Yakut literally decked his opponent, Shemsi Bequiri, in the very first round. Not much can be said about the winner’s ability since, in such cases, the victory comes so quickly that you have no time to really evaluate the guy. Certainly, Yakut is good and has a solid right punch, but he is another one I would like to see again in a more substantial match. Among the highlights of the evening we also had a Muay Thai match marking the existing friendship and cooperation between Italy and Thailand. Thanks to the good offices of Stefano De Bonis, who worked hard to secure the approval of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Embassy in Italy, we were proud to host a delegation at Oktagon featuring Prajaskin Kaenjabai, who fought against the Milan’s capable Francesco Cerigone, coached by Diego Calzolari. I sincerely thought that the Thai, with his experience of more than 150 fights, would totally dominate our athlete, but instead the latter stubbornly and admirably held his own to the very end, even if the match was not a thing of beauty. Cerigone deserves our compliments for bravely fighting the 5 rounds and not being overwhelmed by his more notorious rival. Oktagon thrived on these encounters, which made the price of a ticket worthwhile. Since Carlo Di Blasi is always looking for major attractions for his event, I’ll take the liberty of suggesting for next year’s event a rematch between Andy Souwer and Giorgio Petrosian, but over the classical five 3-minute rounds. I guarantee it would be a great success.

World Martial Arts Games to further popularize Wushu

Source: http://www.china.org.cn/sports/news/2009-02/19/content_17303121.htm

By Huang Shan and Xiang Bin
China.org.cn staff reporters in Harbin

International sports federations and associations will take an active part in the first World Martial Arts Games next year, said Hein Verbruggen, the President of the General Association of International Sports Federations (AGFIS) in northeast China's Harbin on Wednesday afternoon.
Verbruggen made the comments during his meeting with Liu Peng, Minister of the State General Administration of Sport, in northeast China's Harbin on Wednesday afternoon. He had been invited there to attend the opening ceremony of the 24th Winter Universiade in the evening.
The World Martial Arts Games were first initiated by Verbruggen to promote martial arts worldwide. According to Verbruggen, 13 members of AGFIS have already confirmed their participation in the Games, including the Wrestling, Judo and Taekwondo Federations. Wushu, the "national martial art" of China, will definitely be an important part of the Games, he said.
Verbruggen said AGFIS has approved an application from the International Wushu Federation to increase the number of qualified athletes. Attendance was previously restricted to 80 to 90 participants – including referees, working staff and athletes - for each discipline.
Liu Peng thanked Verbruggen for his efforts in popularizing martial arts. He maintained that China would not participate in all the disciplines, and had worked to encourage athletes from other countries and regions to vie for the gold medals.
At the Wushu tournament during the Beijing Olympic period, China sent athletes to only 8 of the 15 disciplines. This would benefit the development and popularization of Wushu, explained Liu, and therefore improve the prospects of Wushu becoming an Olympic sport. He promised the Chinese Olympic Committee would be unremitting in its effort to promote Wushu and make it an international treasure.
A technical team from AGFIS inspected Beijing in January and gave the city a high rating for its preparation work towards hosting the Games, said Verbruggen, adding that Beijing has accumulated abundant experience during last year's Olympics and Paralympics and will make full use of the Games' legacy.
AGFIS has established a back-up department for the Games and will broadcast the competitions around the world.
Hein Verbruggen was awarded the Friendship Award by the Chinese government on February 17 for his outstanding work as the Chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
