| He went on to compete in many Junior and Senior galas, tournaments and championships - his achievements included: Junior champion Europe (1984), 3rd European championships (1988), World Vice champion (1989) and 3rd World championships (1991).
Miodrag expressed his gratitude to Damien Wehr, who had encouraged him to continue in Boxe Francaise Savate after he lost his first fight, and the sense of privilege he felt having met a lot of great people from the world of French boxing: Christian Guillaume, Bob Alix, Jean-Marie Gacaker... In 1986, he had his first fight against Gilles le Duigou, Champion of Europe at that time. The fight took place in Rijeka (Croatia). Miodrag was leading on points until the 4th round, when he was stopped by a strike to the liver. After the fight, Gilles handed the trophy to him, held up his hand and started the applause. The crowd cheered this example of fair play. Roles were reversed in a rematch, held in Belgrade in 1987, when he stopped Gilles in the 5th round, with a punch to the stomach. Inspired by Gilles' earlier example, he gave his trophy to Gilles. After that, Boxe Francaise Savate became his way forward:
"Boxe Francaise is the way of honour, the way of art, the way of chivalry, the way of the knights. You learn how to fight, how to move, and you learn your mind - how to listen, how to work and how to obey." These earlier influences remain with him. Miodrag Jotic has been a member of the Serbian Olympic Committee for 7 years, and a member of the Commission for Fair-play. He founded an organisation in Serbia promoting fair-play, and in 2008 started a "Fighting against the Violence Project" in Novi Sad. This project has included demonstrations of different martial arts to help young people get into sport, with qualified trainers, and to leave behind aggressive attitudes. All the young people who took part were awarded diplomas, with graphics promoting the World Anti-doping Agency code. On the 20th June 2009, in Novi Sad, Miodrag Jotic was awarded the diploma of "Honour Member" of the International Savate Federation by his old adversary and friend, FIS President Gilles Le Duigou. An honour greatly deserved! ![]() |

Can Damien Wehr help savate?
Damien Wehr is very respected lawyer.
He is also guilty for savate to come to Yugoslavia (Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia...)
Can he help now FIS to come to Sportaccord / AGFIS /GAISF?
...and to escape those stories about "evil" people who didn't take care about savate and forget to send the post :) as showed the case of Mr. Bukovac from Croatian savate ?

Croatian taekwondo federation
WTF (olympic) and ITF (non-olympic) taekwondo merged in Croatia.
But just a little bit different than in Slovenia.
In Slovenia http://taekwondo-zveza.si/povezave/ official federation is those of Tran Trieu Quan http://www.tkd-itf.org/. (In this federation Croatia doesn't have representative - and Slovenian Olympic Committee (Ministry of Sport and Lottery) spent many euros to preserve ITF activities as vital ones for olympic taekwondo)
But in Croatia http://www.itf.taekwondo.hr - those of Ung-chan http://www.itftkd.org/ .
Croatian taekwondo federation has 101 member clubs:

SportAccord/GAISF introduces its new Director, Nolvenn Dufay de Lavallaz
IS THIS NEW SAVATE OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN SPORTACCORD/AGFIS/GAISF?
Christine Dominguez, former director general of GAISF, departed the organization earlier in the wake of the decision at the March general assembly to move its headquarters from Monaco to Lausanne.
17 July 2009
SportAccord (previously known as GAISF, the General Association of International Sport Federations) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs Nolvenn Dufay de Lavallaz as its new Director.

Nolvenn Dufay de Lavallaz, 34, from France, started her career on the field of play, coaching elite gymnastics. In 1999, she joined the French Ministry of Youth and Sports to develop sports and cultural activities at regional level, and educate coaches and administrators.
Graduated in Sport Management and holding a professional elite coach diploma, Dufay de Lavallaz completed her education in 2002 with an International Master in Humanities, Management and Law of Sport (CIES/FIFA Master).
She then joined the IOC Sports Department, where she led the first global sports evaluation for the review of the Olympic Programme and oversaw the organisation of the Sports Operations for the Beijing Olympic Games. More recently, she managed the Athletes section, developing new programmes to better support Olympians.
Announcing the new appointment, SportAccord President Hein Verbruggen said; "The appointment of Nolvenn is key at this point of the history of our organisation. We are restructuring deeply SportAccord in order to better support our Members and offer them new services. Nolvenn's experience in developing programmes, as well as her understanding of the sports environment, makes her contribution a real asset."
Commenting on her appointment, Dufay de Lavallaz said; "I have always considered GAISF and now SportAccord as a great opportunity for the sports Federations and Organisations to share knowledge and experience, develop expertise and get services that are commonly needed. I am proud to lead this organisation, especially at this very special moment where we face challenging changes, for the best of the organisation. I believe we can bring more to our Members; this is and will remain our objective."

25th FISU conference - Declaration of Belgrade
July 5th, 2009
The role of university sports in education and society
A platform for change
The International University Sport Federation (FISU) Conference, was held from July 2nd to 5th 2009, on the occasion of the 25th Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia.
More than 130 researchers, professors, university rectors, students and university sports officials from 35 countries from the five continents underlined the unique importance and special opportunities which university sport in the widest terms can contribute to the educational process within higher education. They also insisted on the fact that sport is much more than a tool for education: it should be established as a human right and part of human responsibilities.
The main theme of “University sports, a platform for change”, was chosen in the context of the new “knowledge society”, but also in the context of the economical, societal and ecological crisis affecting the whole world. The Intention was to elaborate on the undoubted value of participation in sport as part of a life-long learning process.
Internationally renowned keynote speakers variously demonstrated that knowledge generates new opportunities and power for mankind, but this requires more responsibility and accountability. Making ethics and value systems endogenous to the decision systems, in all fields including sports, is an absolute necessity for the global sphere, in order to realize world stability, sustainability, understanding and peace.
I – Conference participants discussed the fact that University Sport has the power to develop social, educational, cultural and ethical responsibility in young people. They strongly advocated an increasing role for University Sport as a key driver, both in offering the student a comprehensive educational experience and in delivering well founded, young citizens for the future.
Involvement in University Sport brings in particular the following benefits:
• Character formation and consolidation of ethical values, based on the respect for others, on fair-play and on truth; • Acknowledgement of cultural diversity and the appreciation of intercultural contact.;
• Team working, advanced levels of autonomy and self regulation, with obvious benefits at both cognitive and motivational levels;
• social competencies and active citizenship; • Organisation and project planning;
• Development of higher levels of thought and decision making; • Life long learning - emotional intelligence and balance of the “self”, especially through the capacity to defer gratification and to manage strategic long-term objectives; • Good mental and physical health and increased productivity; • Improved mobility as skilled, international and inter-generational communicators;
II - The development of these valuable skills through engagement in the field of university sport should be formalised.
1/ Participants emphatically welcomed the concept that Universities should organize physical education, physical activities, sport for all and competitive high level sport, as part of both extracurricular and required programs.
2/ Participants, while assessing their support for the general principle, urge organisations with competencies in higher education, all over the world, to engage in co-
ordinating their policies to reach in the short term the following objectives, which are considered to be of primary relevance:
- development of transversal multidisciplinary scientific researches and educational programs including ethics, value systems, anti-doping, fair play, physical education, healthy lifestyle and sport ;
- multidisciplinary courses should be formalised through specific diplomas or a credit point system in higher education.
- readiness of universities to provide sports facilities for students and university personnel to take part in physical exercise and sport activities according to their interests and aptitudes. To make effective, innovative use of resources, government and educational authorities will need to partner each other in the maintenance and development of quality facilities, especially those located within academic communities. Furthermore, university sport support services should be established as a core function of the university welfare and administration services, guaranteeing that students’ views are continually monitored;
- making universities « central databases » for study and research in ethics, value systems, anti-doping, fair play, physical education, physical activities healthy lifestyle and sport;
- making universities the center of learning and exchange of information for the community so as to lead to cultural exchange;
- creating and continuously developing networking among universities, both nationally and internationally;
3/ Participants hereby undertake to attain these objectives within the framework of their institutional capabilities and taking full respect of the diversity of cultures, languages, national education systems and of University autonomy. To that end they will pursue the possibilities of inter-universitiy co-operation.
4/ Participants expect universities to contribute actively to the achievment of those goals.
5/ University sports – competitive sports and sports for all – is a major value added to youth and to human society, even though it is not equally developped in diverse nations, regions and continents. Participants ask FISU to emphasize the scientific analysis of university sports and impulse a world wide strategy :
-to develop new concepts and models of sports practices based on active, creative involvment of students in sports, cultural and artistic activities.
-to insure that university sports is sufficiently considered at all political and educational levels in diverse nations, regions, continents.
6/ Participants support and urge FISU to continue to develop a strategy in support of the above, which would utilise its international links with members and partners to develop a capacity building platform for accreditation and life long learning through university sport. In particular, it is suggested that FISU should establish formal links and cooperation with :
-UNESCO, the leading world organisation in the essential fields of education, culture and ethical values. FISU should be active in participating in the works of CISEPS, the UNESCO permanent intergovernemental Committee for physical Education and Sport.
-WADA, the leading world organisation for antidoping education.
-CIFP, the International Committee for Fair Play.
This will make greater the University Sports and FISU contribution to the practice and endogenisation of ethics values systems that the 21st century global human society needs as a necessary condition for its stability and for peace.

Roger Paschy - Muay Thai pioneer - France
Sport: Karate
Name: Roger Paschy
Subtitle: In the Footsteps of Bruce Lee
Info: Roger Paschy first started learning karate at the age of 16. Eight years later, he was a budding world champion. Born in Saigon, Paschy has at his command all the secrets of this martial art. He performs each attack in masterful fashion and with a strength which for a long time meant he was the most respected exponent of karate in Europe, along with the Frenchmen Dominique Valera and Gilbert Gruss. Because he wanted to know and understand thoroughly the other martial arts, this world team champion (1972) started studying the disciplines of budo known as the nunchaku and the bo. For seven years, he worked with the master Kitamura, a fifth dan in karate and in kobudo, in his dojo at Nara in Japan. His progress in competition was rapid, and in his very first appearance in the French championships he finished third (1968). He was selected for the French team in 1970 and stayed with it for five years, during which he won three European championship titles and one world team championship title in Paris. As a representative of the Police Sports Association, Roger Paschy was unfortunate to find himself having to fight such exceptional sportsmen as Valera and Gruss in the days before categories were divided by weight. After the appearance of a lightweight category, he became European champion and towards the end of his career as an "amateur", he almost made it to the winner's rostrum of the 1975 World Championships in Long Beach, where he was beaten by the Japanese Murakami. In 1976, he changed direction and became the cinema's second Bruce Lee when he appeared in Christian Jacque's film "Doctor Justice". As full-contact European champion once he had turned professional, he soon relinquished his title in order to devote more time to his forthcoming book on Karate: technique and efficiency.

Russian President Medvedev meets Universiade Medallists
In small Slovenia - where the center of European University sport EUSA is - Olympic Committee of Slovenia and other newspapers didn't pay much of attention on Universiade 2009.

On July 17th, 2009, President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev met the winners and medallists of the Russian delegation at the 25th Summer Universiade in Belgrade, Serbia. The meeting was held in Ekaterininsky Hall of the Kremlin in Moscow. The Russian delegation headed the medal table tally with 76 medals (27 gold, 22 silver & 27 bronze).
The President congratulated the members of the Russian student's team - sportsmen and coaches - with the victory and wished them success in future competitions and their university studies.
The Russian President, a former university professor himself, is a strong supporter of university sport. In 2008 he met a FISU delegation chaired by FISU Vice-President Stefan Bergh on their way to Kazan, at that time a candidate city for the 2013 Summer Universiade.
President Medvedev pronounced a decree to secure the preparation and holding of the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan in 2013 and the 22nd Winter Olympic Games and 11th Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 earlier this year.

Prof. POPEYE calls for unification of USA savate
Is this a chance for one of the biggest future savate federation?

It has been a few years since we have had the momentum of savateurs that we have now. For several reason I had left the board and my position as executive Director.
The reasons were the political up reset of the French federation claiming that we did not want to work with the contemporary Savate groups of the East and west coast of the United Sates. Even when I and several others had invited their apparent leaders to partake in the events.
The second was that in Laredo we had uncovered a shenanigan movement of thievery against the Youth of Laredo within the board of the Laredo Amateur Boxing Club. Who the director Angel Santiago had mistreated and had over 350 thousand dollars disappear. While Finding out that the City of Laredo Corrupt ways had infiltrated that organization. Where the city Manager Larry Dovalina , Chief of Police Agustine Dovalina a district Judge Andy Reyes and several county commissioners were involved with the misappropriation of funds. So we had Police Units give traffic citations to the savateurs of my School we had them threaten my Family members and had several Laredo Police Officers try to heat me up as they say.
Unfortunately Good always prevails. So that was the reason I left the organization. I was asked this past season by two Board members to rekindle the movement o USA SAVATE and I have done so.
On June 27th We kicked of the movement with a Steak Plate Sale to purchase a Boxing Ring for the Group. Since our old Boxing ring was stolen by an ex member of USA SAVATE Fernando Cantu and his Father.
The cost of the new ring is between $8000.00 to $9000.00 dollars and we had a total of $1400.00 made this past weekend.
The unity and everyone worked together from the members of the Webb County District Attorneys office, the Webb county sheriffs department, Webb Constable Tino Juarez and the tribe of Buitron Academy.
We started at 4am on Saturday with Cornelo Flores starting the grill for the 500 steaks . Then we had Omar Rodriguez show up to aide in the effort .
Around 6 am we had the first group of savateurs show up to assist and build the gazebo as well as to prepare the plates.
Due to the different work schedule we had everyone that could help, help. The groups effort especially with in USA SAVATE is to formulate several satellite clubs in Webb County , Dallas County and other county's in the State of Texas for this upcoming season.
Everyone worked hard with leading the pack inside in the cool air was Mrs. Cindy Cavazos , in preparing the plates , bread and napkins for the 500 plates.
By 8:30 am the 300 steak were done and out of the way. the amazement was on the versatile movement of these veteran carne asada doers. By 9:30 am all on the steaks were done and out of the way. In fact the The rice and beans that was cooked by the Webb County Sheriffs Department was excellent.
At 11am the plates were ready to go and the rush began everyone was on point and ready to fill the plates with the steaks and Spanish rice. This was an exciting event for me since the unity of working together for a commons goal was actually rarely seen in USA SAVATE with the pre-Madonna attitude of the majority of the members of the past.
"We have several event s ready to go such as the sanction for the 1st Danse De Rue Games. where everyone is invited including the contemporary Savate players. So please east and west coast gangs either put up or shut up once and for all , and do not lie that we never invited you to become members in the past as members: Scholtz, Basulto and Saigniac state . One thing to the east and west coast gangs if you all have any personal Beef with me or my family we can seriously set up a quick once and for all dance in the street with anyone of you when ever you want. If not partake if you wish."

Jogo do Pau - COMPETITION !!!!!!
Could this be BATON (savate) relative?
On savate competitions we see many muay thai, wu shu and kickboxing and boxing fighters.
Why wouldn't we allow Jogo do Pau to compete on BATON competitions?
BUT...Do we have BATON competitions? Do you know if there was some savate BATON competition in 20th or 21th century?

SportAccord Combat Games NEWS

Three months after the signing of the host contract between SportAccord and the Beijing Municipality Government, the event preparation structures have been established respectively in Lausanne, Switzerland and in the city of Beijing, P. R. China. Working procedures are gradually being set up and implemented; the communication channels are up and running.
Event Name
The name of the event, originally “SportAccord Martial Arts and Combat Sports Games” (abbreviated as MA&CS Games, and very often called Martial Arts Games - MAG), confronted SportAccord with some marketing identity issues, and was in conflict with the already registered World Martial Arts Games. The solution was found and a new name has been agreed upon by the majority of the participating IF. The event is now officially named SportAccord Combat Games.
Event Logo
Being another important part of the event identity, the logo also went through various discussions, modifications and revisions. With the objective of defining a readable, marketable and representative logo for all concerned sports, SportAccord presented, as seen opposite, the new event logo.
On the basis of this logo the local organisers will be able to add, to the left, their own elements for the first edition of the SportAccord Combat Games in Beijing in 2010.
1st Coordination Meeting in Beijing
The first Coordination Visit of SportAccord Combat Games took place in the second half of June. The visit symbolised the activation of the Beijing Preparatory Committee for the 2010 SportAccord Combat Games. During the meeting, Beijing presented their plans on various subjects, such as event marketing, worldwide promotions, event services, risk management and general planning. The meeting was concluded with a clear overview of the event preparation tasks ahead, backed up by solid organisation teams on both sides.
Technical Meeting preparation
The re-scheduled technical meeting is going to welcome in Beijing all the technical delegates (TD) of the concerned sports at the end of July. They will meet and discuss the disciplines, qualification systems, event formats and competition rules, which most IF have already submitted to SportAccord. A preliminary competition schedule is expected to be finalised after the 2-day gathering in Beijing.

Savate in Germany also in WKA - kickboxing

Savate federation of Germany is part of some smaller regional WKA kickboxing federation.
This is good - because savate is not just in one kickboxing organisation called WAKO (like in Italy and probably everywhere outside France) but it is now also in WKA.
Yes savate is on the right way. You don't need your own organization - you should always seek for another one, different.

Kai Becker from Kickboxing club Plattling which is WAKO member - and very important in WAKO Germany is (source: Buhlbron Savate) also member of Savate federation Germany. And French federation of savate teaches his woman kickboxing fighter Julia Irmen boxe francaise technology. But as you see, Savate Germany cooperates with WKA. Strange thing is - that perfect cooperation of WAKO and WKA you can see in one of the German states called Thueringen (central part of Germany - known of good sausages in Erfurt) because just in this state WAKO doesn't have its representative, but WKA does.
What a coincidence... Oh my god.

LIKE YOUR STYLE. IN THE SAME SHIT WE ARE IN EUROPE. NEIGHBOR COUNTRIES DON'T WANT TO COOPERATE. WE DON'T HAVE ANY OPEN ASSAUT CHAMPIONSHIPS. AND MOST OF THE PEOPLE WE ARE LOOKING IN SAVATE ARE PEOPLE FROM KICKBOXING. EVERYWHERE THE SAME STORY.
AND AGFIS - YES - THIS YEAR IT WILL BE FOR SURE. THEY PROMISSED :)
Canne de combat tournaments should be part of assaut and combat championships
ASCA (Amicales), Paris, France, June 2009.
Every year we make savate tournaments - assaut and combat, but we always forget to include in the same competition our savate sport called Canne de Combat. Just one ring would be enough to support this unique savate discipline. And why not?
Martial Arts Games Beijing 2010
IS SAVATE INTERESTING IN?
Dear EWuF Members,
The first official Martial Arts & Combat Sport Games (MAG) under the patronage of IOC and Sportaccord will be in Beijing from August 28th till September 4th, 2010. The Games would last 8 days and 13 recognised International Martial Arts Federations will attend. Each of the 13 participating IFs will have a delegation of 120 participants, i.e. 80 athletes and 40 officials. The Games will take place in 3 different venues, with one venue dedicated to the three ring sports (boxing, kickboxing and muay thai) and each of the other two venues hosting respectively five sports.
A cultural programme would also be running during the Games, consisting in audiovisual and photographic exhibitions on the one hand, and in congresses and lectures on the other hand. The aim of the cultural programme would be to show the social, educational and historical background of each sport. The 13 disciplines are: aikido, boxing, judo, ju jitsu, karate, kendo,
kickboxing, muaythai, sambo, sumo, taekwondo, wrestling and wushu. The athletes participating would be around 1100, along with 400 officials. There would be 20 events and 100 gold medals awarded (60 for male categories and 40 for female).
The Sportaccord President , Mr. Hein Verbruggen, appointed 2 persons to manage the MAG Cultural program, those are Mr. August Dragt (Aikido) and Mr. Patrick Van Campenhout (Wushu).
An overview:
· January 2009: inspection visit to Beijing by the MAG technical delegates
· February 2009: signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by the GAISF/Sportaccord President and the City of Beijing;
· March 26, 2009: signing of the contract in Denver by the GAISF/Sportaccord President and
the Vice Mayor of Beijing Mr Liu Jingmin;
The total cost of the project would be of 9,300,000 USD, but most of the expenses would be taken care of by the Chinese organisation (i.e. transport, accommodation, meals and so on). The President also wished to set up a wide promotional programme around the GAISF member Martial Arts & Combat Sports IFs.
We are all looking forward to this historical event for the Martial Arts and Combat Sports.
Yours sincerely,
Patrick Van Campenhout

Cameroonian International Judge/ Referee Course
A training course for officials organized by the FIS and Mr. Ali Adji chair of the African Savate Confederation , took place in Yaounde from April 24th to May 5th 2009.
About twenty people from 20 to approximately 40 years took part in the course directed by Mr. Alain Gernet. Some of them were confirmed fighters. The training was theoretical and practical and, depending on the questions - and the temperature ! - alternated between the morning and the end of the day. The communication had been prepared a long time ahead and on several occasions, the media - TV, radios, and newspapers - came to observe the training course and to interview the trainees.
On Saturday, May 2nd, there was a gala, France – Cameroun, with 6 fighters from France, and the trainees immediately got to work as officials. Score Cameroun 2, France 4.
Three days later, in collaboration with the Cameroonian DTN and national trainer, the trainees passed their judge/referee exams. The official classification (national, regional officials etc) was carried out by the DTN, the trainer and the president who formed the jury.
Congratulations to everybody and in particular to those qualified as International Judge / Referees:

Previously on Sunday, a rehearsal took place in IOC Headquarters, where all the technical details and other issues were revised.
The presentation was well received by the IOC Executive Board; it was covering all aspects of both the World Karate Federation and of the sport of Karate, including the added value that Karate will give to the Olympic Program and vice-versa, and also the impact that the Olympism of Karate will have on the push of the social values of Karate worldwide. Other outstanding features highlighted were the universality of the sport and the simplicity and low cost that the incorporation of Karate to the Games would suppose.

Savate and EU licensing in Slovenia

In Slovenia starting with this year European Union money will be spent to educate savate initiators, instructors, trainers and trainers pro.
2009-2011 period.
All competitors and all trainers interested in savate will probably come together to start with legal licenses which will be strictly controlled by Ministry of Sport and Education.
Savate federation Slovenia will accept only members from specialized savate clubs with legal membership cards and gloves will also be tested in this period of time.
Without all this procedures no more savate trainings will be allowed in Slovenia not even for recreational matters.
All cowboys and freelancers will be sent home.
Now it is definitive.

FIKA - K1 amateur federation

Kazuyoshi Ishii Fan Meeting
Powerful K-1 founder Ishii held a fan event in Shibuya in Tokyo today. He said that he doesn’t have any intentions to become K-1 producer again. Instead, he will put all his power into a new amateur organization called International K-1 Federation (FIKA). He wants to especially advance into Europe. He says that there are a lot of strong fighters in Greece. He wants to hold K-1 events in Europe from now on in order to have it erupt there.
He also talked about the K-1 World Cup which there has been talks about for some years now. He said that they will be able to have 32 countries for their first one, compared to 7 which soccer/football had in its first World Cup (he means that the first K-1 World Cup will be at a larger scale than the first football world cup, which is now the biggest). This is also part of FIKA.

Finishing with MMA, he said that with organization DREAM and organization SENGOKU, an UFC opposition cannot be made. He said that he is currently in talks about them doing MMA together. He said that when considering the fans, doing MMA together is better.

Is he saying that by having two big japanese organizations its harder for them to fight off a UFC invasion?
And how/what could he do to make the two sides merge?
I know he had power once but does he have any leverage to pull this off?
As for k-1, I get wanting to associated your product to an event like the World Cup but the great thing about international sports like soccer, basketball, volleyball, handball and so on is that the two year of qualifications before the final event are part of the buildup and excitement. Still, there is enough kicking martial arts around the planet that it could work but it seems like kickboxing also has too many “world” events and instead of this being the ultimate, it ends up being another belt with the word “world champ” on it. Dont they have a K-1 World Grand Prix series that culminates in the K-1 World GP 2009 Final 16? They had an event last month in in Łódź, Poland – I thought kickboxing was pretty big in europe and not some unchartered wilderness (Shades of the american “we brought basketball to the world in 1992.”??). And I must confess, this is the first time I hear that greece is a kickboxing hotbed.
But he is right about working on the amateur side. You dont become a world sports by having no basis, no foundation. Its not sexy as promoting pro fights but building national and international federations is part of the process for being a recognized sport and its a long term project that’s gonna demand lots of work.
