World Combat Games 2013 with SAVATE - french boxing and canne de combat

The first planning meeting for the 2013 World Combat Games took place in Lausanne in November. I am pleased to inform you that Savate has been included in the planning for the Games. The vision for the Games is for a “Festival Atmosphere”, with the competition taking in place in 4 venues, over 8 days.
A competition schedule will be designed to group together sports with similar technical requirements (e.g. for rings or mats) and to allow each sport to gain “Prime-time” media exposure.

The FISav Competitions Commission will propose selection criteria for athletes interested in competing in the Games. SportAccord asks for a minimum of 8 high level athletes per category, coming from a wide range of countries, and for a good balance between male and female categories. Qualification events must be completed 3 months before the start of the Games.

SportAccord is encouraging the International Federations to include additional disciplines, so we may be able to include Canne de Combat. There will be a cultural programme to reflect the ancient traditions and values of the participating sports and their contribution to society. There will also be an Ambassador Program, which will be launched in 2012. The Ambassadors are seen as symbols of their sport; they participate in various activities during the eight days of competitions and promote the Combat Games and the martial arts to the public.
