On May 28, 2010 the 1st Croatian University Sport Conference was held in Rijeka. The event was organised by the University of Rijeka, Croatian University Sports Federation and Rijeka University Sports Association.
The goal of the conference was to discuss on the university sport future. Present on the conference were also EUSA representatives Mr Alberto Gualtieri, President, Mr Sinisa Jasnic, Vice-President and Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary General.
The participants were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Sc. Snezana Prijic - Samarzija, Prorector of the University of Rijeka. The current situation and guidelines for the future development of sport on the University of Rijeka was presented by Mr Haris Pavletic, President of Rijeka University Sports Association.
Prof. dr. Sc. Pero Lucin, the Rector of the University of Rijeka expressed his full support to the student sport activities at the university. Mr Zrinko Custonja, CUSF President presented the analysis on the University Sport in Croatia, while Mr Gualtieri and Mr Jasnic spoke on the university sport situation in Europe and World. Mr Gualtieri especially thanked the CUSF for their active role in EUSA in the past years, stressing that 5 European universities championships and 1 symposium are organised in the period 2007-2011 in Croatia.
Present were also the representatives of the City of Rijeka, Croatian Olympic Committee, students, professors and many university sport workers and journalists from Croatia. In the debate that followed the presentations the participants tried to find answers to questions and dilemmas of the university sport.
The event was concluded with a special declaration. The next conference will be organised in 2011, when Rijeka will also host the EUC Handball.
