As I predicted many years ago, SAVATE cooperation with kickboxing born a new WAKO child named LIGHT CONTACT LOW KICK, which is already practiced in FIKB (Italian kickboxing). From now on the development of savate without cooperation of kickboxing WAKO will be much, much harder work to do...
And French Savate Federation as it seems put its sport again (as so many times in history) in a perfect isolation. Savate still needs to wait... and sleep ... and sleep
But as we remember from savate history - savate is a part of a bigger plan. But for you - new federations, rainy days are coming. You will need to proove your National Olympic Committes, that savate is a different sport from WAKO - low kick light contact. And this will we very , very hard procedure.
WAKO BOARD MEETING IN VIENNA
Hilton Vienna (Austria) hosted recently the annual WAKO Board meeting which voted the Balance 2008, approved the Budget 2009 and discussed many issues regarding the intense life of the organization.
Among others, AERO-KICKBOXING was unanimously voted out of WAKO programmes starting from 2010. Unfortunately that style, which is still very successful and popular in the gyms (especially among women), did not take off as a competition. To replace AERO-KICKBOXING, president Falsoni proposed to adopt a new tatami style which can be easily explained as LIGHT CONTACT with LOW-KICKS. Competitors, dressed in shorts , t-shirt and safeties as per our rules, will figth each other using the low-kick techniques which must be controlled on target. Reason is that WAKO wish to develop a style that, like present light-contact (with HIGH KICKS), can bring more competitors to the ring.
Starting from 2009 World Championships, WAKO will also start its activities including the VETERANS (competitors from 41 to 50 years of age) in SEMI and LIGHT CONTACT ONLY, keeping the existing weight classes. Austria than will host the first Veteran World Championship in Light-contact, while Marseille (France) will host the Semi-contact Veteran World Championship.
