FISU present at IF Forum

FISU was present at the IF Forum 2009 held in Lausanne (Switzerland) from November 16 18, 2009. Going on its 3rd edition, the IF Forum is a vital and productive arena in which international federations are able to come together for open discussion and interactive learning with each other.
This annual meeting point presents the opportunity to meet new colleagues from other international sport organizations, to share concerns, challenges and experiences, in parallel to following the presented topics.
This year, the two main themes were Revenue Generation for International Federations and Reaching Out to Young People through Sport, having attracted more than 70 international federations and organizations, represented by over 250 participants.
The Forum also presented FISU with the opportunity to meet and network with various IF Presidents, General-secretaries and many other representatives. Similarly, FISU was introduced to the University of Lausanne Director of Sports, Georges-Andre Carrel presenting common goals and fields of work for future partnership and collaborations.

The closing remarks where presented by the Association of the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations and International Ice Hockey Federation President, Dr René Fasel. He mentioned key ideas of the presentations, with reference to the fact that the IF were in the business of sport and passion, referring that it took the right people, in the right place, at the right time to achieve success. He underlined the need to bring the message of sport to all people, being creative and innovative.

Eric Saintrond was also invited to the international federations’ annual meeting with the Canton of Vaud highest authorities. This took place at the International Volleyball Federation headquarters in Lausanne, the Chateau Les Tourelles. This prestigious meeting had the presence of the IOC President Dr. Jacques Rogge, the Council of State member Jean Claude Mermoud, the Mayor of Lausanne Daniel Brelaz, the Federal Minister of sport Ueli Maurer and the President of the MSI Marc Vuilleumier.


FISU meets International Olympic Committee

The recent visit to the Olympic capital Lausanne to attend the IF Forum, created the opportunity for FISU Secretary General / CEO Eric Saintrond to visit the International Olympic Committee headquarters.
Accompanied by Executive committee member Leonz Eder, they met IOC General Director Urs Lacotte and Sports Director Christophe Dubi, and discussed FISU’s current positioning, fields of work and possible partnerships. An overview of recently held events, as well as the future scheduled Universiades and World University Championships was also presented.

2010 FISU Forum: Update

The 10th FISU Forum, which will take place in Vigo, Spain, from June 21st to 26th, 2010, will have as its main theme ‘University Sport: A Platform for Change’, which was approved by the CESU meeting held in Vigo form October 16th to 17th, 2009.
The members of the Local Organizing Committee and the CESU also defined the sub-themes that students, general managers and directors will discuss during that intense week, i.e.:
‘Development of Strategic Plans in University Sport atThe Caixanova Social Centre National Level’;
‘Education and Environmental Awareness through University Sport’;
‘Women’s Leadership in University Sport’;
‘University Sport and Academic Recognition’.

This Forum is a meeting point where, every two years, improvement and growth of University Sport is discussed in conferences and work sessions.
The FISU Forum 2010, organized by the Fundación Vigo en Deporte and supported by the Office of the Deputy Mayor, the City Council of Sports, the Spanish National Sports Council and the University of Vigo, will be held at the Caixanova Social Centre, the theatre and the auditorium of the Unviersity Campus in As Lagoas-Marcosende and the Caixanova Cultural Centre.
